# A Higgsfield alternative for developers: the same models by API for less

Updated 2 Nov 2026

## Short answer

VidLab is an API for the same kinds of models Higgsfield sells in its app: one key, 137 models, prices in dollars, and a charge only when a generation succeeds. At the settings compared below, the same model costs 18% less (Wan 3.0) to 79% less (Grok Imagine Image 2.0 at 2K) than on Higgsfield. It is not lower everywhere: Kling 3.0, Kling 4.0 and Hailuo 2.3 cost less on Higgsfield at the default settings we checked.

## Two different products

Higgsfield is a creative app. You pay a monthly plan, you get credits, and each generation spends some of them. That suits people who make things in a browser.

VidLab is built for code and for agents. There is no plan to pick. You add credit to a wallet, call `POST /v1/generations` with a model id, and the price of the call is held until it finishes. A success is charged its catalogue price and a failure costs nothing. The same key works from a script, a backend, or an assistant through MCP, and it reaches models such as [Seedance 2.5](/vidlab-api/models/seedance-2.5), [Nano Banana Pro](/vidlab-api/models/nano-banana-pro) and [Grok Imagine Video 1.5](/vidlab-api/models/grok-imagine-video-1.5).

## The same model, side by side

Video is priced per second of output and images per image.

| Model and setting | VidLab | Higgsfield | You save |
| - | - | - | - |
| Seedance 2.5 480p, per second | $0.088 | $0.147 | 40% |
| Seedance 2.5 720p, per second | $0.21 | $0.343 | 38% |
| Seedance 2.5 1080p, per second | $0.52 | $0.784 | 33% |
| Grok Imagine Video 1.5 720p, per second | $0.07 | $0.2205 | 68% |
| Grok Imagine Video 1.5 1080p, per second | $0.13 | $0.392 | 66% |
| Wan 3.0 720p, per second | $0.07 | $0.0858 | 18% |
| Nano Banana Pro 2K, per image | $0.04 | $0.098 | 59% |
| Nano Banana Pro 4K, per image | $0.08 | $0.196 | 59% |
| Nano Banana 2 2K, per image | $0.03 | $0.098 | 69% |
| Grok Imagine Image 2.0 2K, per image | $0.02 | $0.098 | 79% |
| Seedream 5.0 Pro 2K, per image | $0.04 | $0.1225 | 67% |

The detail pages go deeper on three of these: [Seedance 2.5](/blog/cheapest-seedance-2-5-api), [Nano Banana Pro](/blog/nano-banana-pro-api-pricing) and [Grok Imagine](/blog/grok-imagine-api).

## Where Higgsfield is lower

We compared every setting we could match one to one, and some are cheaper there.

| Model and setting | VidLab | Higgsfield | You save |
| - | - | - | - |
| Kling 3.0 720p, with audio, per second | $0.13 | $0.098 | Higher |
| Kling 4.0 720p, per second | $0.18 | $0.1593 | Higher |
| Hailuo 2.3 768p, per second | $0.06 | $0.049 | Higher |

If your workload is mostly these models at these settings, Higgsfield is the lower price today. Check the setting you use rather than trusting a headline.

## What you get as a developer

- **A price before you spend.** `POST /v1/estimate` returns the exact price of a call. It is free and needs no key.
- **A spending cap.** Send `max_price_usd` and the call is refused if the price is above it.
- **Safe retries.** An `Idempotency-Key` makes a repeated request return the same job instead of starting, and paying for, a second one.
- **Machine-readable docs.** An [OpenAPI file](/v1/openapi.json), [llms.txt](/vidlab-api/llms.txt), and an [agent skill](/vidlab-api/SKILL.md) so a coding agent can read the API without scraping.
- **The cheapest route that is up.** Each call goes to the lowest-priced route that can run it right now, and the price you pay does not change with the route.
- **Agents.** Connect Claude Code, Cursor or Codex through [MCP](/blog/vidlab-mcp-claude-cursor-codex).

## FAQ

### Is VidLab the same product as Higgsfield?

No. They are separate companies with separate products.

### Do I need a monthly plan?

No. You add credit in any amount from $10 to $5,000, or use a pack, and spend it per generation. Credit does not expire. See [wallet and billing](/vidlab-api/docs/billing).

### Are these the same models?

For the rows above, yes: the same named model, called by API instead of through an app. The full list is on the [models page](/vidlab-api/models).

### Does Higgsfield offer an API too?

Check its own documentation for what it offers and what it costs. This post only compares the prices of generations at matching settings.

### How do I try it?

Read the [quickstart](/vidlab-api/docs/quickstart), create a key, and run a free estimate for the model you use today.
